Looking for a New Snow Shovel?

I highly recommend you consider using one of the ergonomic styled snow shovels to keep you safe while shoveling.

  • Adding a coating of car wax or spraying silicone over the face will help keep snow from sticking to the blade,
  • Start in middle and push snow to the sides or work across your driveway or walk,
  • Try to ‘snowplow’ snow by pushing snow, using half your shovel’s width, whenever you can instead of lifting,
  • Keep your knees comfortably bent and don’t lean down too far while shoveling and don’t try to be a ‘He Man’ and lift too much at once!
  • Take breaks!

One of the most important ways to keep fish alive in the winter is to constantly aerate the water.  Even when the surface freezes, the mechanical aeration will circulate oxygen within the pond, keep an ‘blowhole’ open in the ice and allow accumulating gases to escape.

Of course, this is presuming the pond has a section that is at least 3 feet deep so the fish can overwinter.

I recommend this unit for smaller ponds, although there is a larger unit available if needed. It costs pennies a day to operate.
