And Before I Begin My 42nd Year~

The weather is breaking, the grass is greening and the phone calls and emails are starting to come in.
Before I start my 42nd year doing what I love best, I want to first come before the throne, thanking you Lord for allowing me the health, tenacity and talent, and the workers and suppliers I have needed to achieve my dreams, which has allowed me in my small way to contribute to making this community better place for all.
I pray I represent you well in all that I say and do, with the ones you provide, in the time you allow.

Pruning as an Art form

While spring pruning, it brings to mind all the incredible minds who have taken raw materials to create wonderful and worthy art pieces.
Here at Jacrist, know each cut is thought of before it is done.

Is this the proper time to prune? Are there dead branches that need to be removed? Are there branches that are growing into each other? Will the canopy be opened and become stronger? What would be the best method to foster more fruit or flowers? Is the shrub or hedge properly formed?
If you need proper pruning of your trees and shrubs, give us a call~

Ready for Spring Cleaning?

Now that Spring is almost here, everyone seems to be itching to get things started outside.
But in ‘cleaning’ things up, don’t be so thorough… don’t forget birds will be searching for nesting materials and will come looking in your yard~

What’s The Best Way To Fertilize?

What does Jacrist recommend to apply lawn fertilizer easily?
A broadcast spreader~
It allows you to cover a large area the most efficiently when you select a fertilizer or weed control with larger pellets such as Espoma’s Corn Gluten, available at Russell’s Tree & Shrub Farm LLC or Anderson’s 14-14-14 at Lakeside Sod Supply Co., Inc. And don’t forget to blow off or sweep your sidewalks and driveway of any pellets afterward.

So When Do You Fertilize Your Lawn?

The weather is breaking, you’ve turned back your clocks and with the sunny, warm days brightening up our world comes the seasonal question, “When is the time to fertilize my lawn?”

In a nutshell, wait until the forsythia is in bloom~

For those who fertilized last November as I recommended, that fertilization was stored in the roots of grass so an early lawn fertilization is not necessary. The lawn will green up naturally.

When you do, I recommend you use this organic fertilizer and weed preventer available through Russell’s Tree & Shrub Farm.

Know it will not control existing weeds but will help to control weed and annual grass seeds from sprouting and is 9% soluble nitrogen. It can also be used in your flower and shrub beds~
