So you just bagged some great discounted plants at your nearest nursery or big box store. Best gardeners also buy a bag of shredded hardwood mulch and some 14-14-14 fertilizer. Here’s how to plant it like a Jacrist professional~
Dig a hole twice as wide as your pot, circle the outside of the hole with a layer of shredded hardwood mulch and sprinkle a small handful of fertilizer inside the hole BEFORE you backfill the space by chipping in the dirt/mulch mix into the hole around the roots. Tamp soil around the plant to squeeze soil in around roots and make a small ditch circle around the outside of the plant branch perimeter. Add some more mulch inside this collar.
Your plants will thank you and the resident earthworms will be attracted to the improved organic texture of the soil.
